2. William² TOCHER (James¹) (#132) was born Manse of Auchterless, Auchterless parish, Aberdeenshire, Scotland before 27 October 1694.

He was baptized Manse of Auchterless, Auchterless parish, Aberdeenshire, Scotland, 27 October 1694. Religion: Church of Scotland.⁽³⁸⁰⁾ "Oct.27th. 1694 The same day was baptized Wm. Tocher lawful son to James Tocher in the manse of Auchterless. Witnesses; Wm Tocher in Ardlay, Wm Petter in Smallburn." Compiler's Note: The word manse is not clear and could read "mains". I am not aware that a place called "the mains of Auchterless" ever existed, though it may have. The manse of Auchterless does exist (2002). The fact that William appears to have been born in the Manse of Auchterless, while the record of birth appears in Fyvie parish, seems to indicate that perhaps the father was residing in Fyvie while the mother was in Auchterless. It was normal in those times for the father to work away from home.
