He married Ellen Jane CHALMERS in Otago, New Zealand, about 1898. (Ellen Jane CHALMERS is #1426.) Ellen was born 11 September 1878. Ellen was the daughter of John Smith CHALMERS and Emily MORTIMER. Ellen died 11 September 1952 at 74 years of age.

Alexander MURRAY and Ellen Jane CHALMERS had the following children:

2 i. John Alexander² MURRAY (#1438) was born in Invercargill, New Zealand 2 January 1907. John died 12 December 1971 in Dunedin, New Zealand, at 64 years of age. He married Myrthle LINSAY in Dunedin, New Zealand, 28 October 1929. (Myrthle LINSAY is #1442.)

+ 3 ii. Cecil Hector MURRAY was born 20 August 1918.
