5. Alexander4 BARCLAY (Adam3, Adam2, Alexander1) (#75) was born Bruckhills, Auchterless parish, Aberdeenshire, Scotland before 31 December 1795. Alexander died 6 July 1867 Auchterless parish, Aberdeenshire, Scotland, at 71 years of age.(24) The following individual is also linked to this event: William BARCLAY (witness). His body was interred after 6 July 1867 Auchterless parish, Aberdeenshire, Scotland.

He married Helen STEPHEN Auchterless parish, Aberdeenshire, Scotland, 2 December 1820.(25) " 12 November 1820 Alexander Barclay and Helen Stephen both in this parish having contracted in order to marriage and consigned pledges were proclaimed pro 1uno 19, pro 2uno 26, pro 3o and married 2nd. December." (Helen STEPHEN is #76.)

Helen was born in Aberdeenshire, Scotland about 1799. Census 1871 indicate that she was born in Fyvie Aberdeenshire. Also her Death certificate gives her age at death as 87. Helen was the daughter of William STEPHEN and Janet FINDLAY.

Helen died 24 January 1886 Little Newton, Auchterless parish, Aberdeenshire, Scotland, at 86 years of age.(26) Her body was interred after 24 January 1886 Auchterless parish, Aberdeenshire, Scotland.

He was baptized Bruckhills, Auchterless parish, Aberdeenshire, Scotland, 31 December 1795. Religion: Church of Scotland.(27) "December 31st. 1795 Adam Barclay in Bruckhills ex uxore Margaret Niven had twins baptized before witnesses, named Alexander and Isabel."

Alexander's occupation: Crofter Redhill, Auchterless parish, Aberdeenshire, Scotland, before 6 July 1867.(28) There were 3 crofts in this area. One now remains which belonged to the Barclay family, whose original homestead was Bruckhills, which is to the north of this farm, and on the north bank of the Ythan burn. Adam Barclay farmed this croft, as did his son Alexander who died here 6 July 1867 aged 71. All Alexander's children grew up here including my father's grandmother Helen Barclay, who married James Esslemont here. A son of Alexander, James followed his father in farming the croft and died here. The latter's grandson George Young Barclay=Mary Helen Shepherd, continued to farm here until his death 26 May1953.. His son George was present at his death but was residing at the time at Heathery Braes, which was north of Redhill on the south bank of the Ythan burn. This latter George moved eventually to Glenbogie Oyne, where he was a carrier and died. His wife Mary (Molly Geddes) is still living at Glenbogie and her granddaughter, Diane McFarland, maiden name, Barclay is corresponding with me by Email and letters at present, March 2000. Molly Geddes sent me a card on the 9 March 2000. This croft was lived in by some English man in the 1960s who altered it. This latter, was told to me by the present owner, also English (1997) who lives near by.

He made a will Redhill, Auchterless parish, Aberdeenshire, Scotland, 12 November 1867.(29)

Alexander BARCLAY and Helen STEPHEN had the following children:

John was born in Strathdon parish, Aberdeenshire, Scotland 7 February 1827. John was the son of Thomas ROY and Isabel SMITH. John died 12 May 1897 Fisherford, Auchterless parish, Aberdeenshire, Scotland, at 70 years of age. His body was interred after 12 May 1897 Auchterless parish, Aberdeenshire, Scotland.

She was baptized Redhill, Auchterless parish, Aberdeenshire, Scotland, 3 December 1824. Religion: Church of Scotland. According to conflicting evidence, she married John ROY in Tarves parish, Aberdeenshire, Scotland, 3 August 1851. She resided Mains of Badenscoth, Auchterless parish, Aberdeenshire, Scotland 1903-1904.(31) Mary Roy a widow, resided in a house at Mains of Badenscoth

child 13 iv. Robert BARCLAY (#80) was born Redhill, Auchterless parish, Aberdeenshire, Scotland before 25 September 1826. He was baptized Redhill, Auchterless parish, Aberdeenshire, Scotland, 25 September 1826. Religion: Church of Scotland. He resided Redhill, Auchterless parish, Aberdeenshire, Scotland 6 July 1841.(32) He resided at Aberdeen, Old Machar, Aberdeenshire, Scotland 4 April 1881, Denburn Tce.(33) He is unmarried and born in Auchterless age 54

Jane died 4 May 1898 Little Newton, Auchterless parish, Aberdeenshire, Scotland, at 66 years of age. Her body was interred after 4 May 1898 Auchterless parish, Aberdeenshire, Scotland. Stone in Auchterless kirkyard " Erected by Thomas Roy in loving memory of his wife Jane Barclay who died at Little Newton 4th. May 1898 aged 66 years Also the above Thomas Roy who died at Ythan Wells 11th. July 1913 aged 81 years "
